On the eve of his re-nomination for the Presidency, the DNC has decided to move President Obama's acceptance speech from the 70,000 seat Bank of America stadium (which they tried to rename Panther's Field to avoid associating with a reviled bank) to the 20,000 Seat Time-Warner Cable Arena. Officials claim that there was a chance of thunderstorms which endangered the event. But weather forecasts are sketchy. But as late as yesterday, DNC officials asserted that the event would go on rain or shine.
What is more likely is that the Obama 2012 campaign could not fill the stadium like they did at Mile High Stadium in Denver in 2008 and they wanted to avoid the unfortunate optics of empty seats. For the better part of a week, there have been reports of local Democrat parties and unions organizing bus trips to the big speech.
While this last minute move should ensure a full house, wags have wondered about the wisdom of the move. Time Warner Cable Arena is the home of the NBA Charlotte Bobcats and they say nothing winning comes out of that area.
